TROOP BEVERLY HILLS

Our Fashion in Film recommendation of the week goes to none other than 1989’s Troop Beverly Hills. In this formative film (particularly for those born under a Carter administration) ginger-haired Shelly Long stars as Phyllis Nefler, a society wife that takes over as leader for her daughter’s (played by an adorable young Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley and indie rock fame) Wilderness Girls troop featuring a bunch of stylish spoiled Hollywood rich kids. In Long's quest to teach them about fashion, friendship, and hard work she learns the same lessons along the way. And we LOVE IT. Expect huge shoulder pads, even bigger bangs, the requisite 80’s fashion show montage (!) and stylish cameos by Cheech Marin, Robin Leach, and a teen Tori Spelling. Basically, it’s everything you’ve ever wanted in a film.

And now the most important question of all: What color of Claws Out would Phyllis and the girls have worn? The answer is, of course, our Green New Deal with its emerald hue the perf color to complement the Wilderness Girls uniform.
