Congresswoman Katie Porter, the Elizabeth Warren Presidential Campaign, and Claws Out

A tweet from Congresswoman Katie Porter, “Claws Out represents the best of American small business. They are rooted in community and give back 20% of profits to create a better future. Today and every day, I’m proud to cheer them on. That kind of support and word of mouth is paramount to a small business and she gets it.”

We get a lot of fun emails, but this one may have been the most surprising of all. In 2019 we temporarily rebranded our Blue State color to She Has a Plan for That as we threw our support in the presidential primaries behind Senator Elizabeth Warren. Soon we received an email from the fantastic white board wielding congresswoman Katie Porter. Not her aides or assistants, but straight up her asking if we could fabricate a custom color to be handed out to Warren’s Iowa campaign team as a thank you for all their work leading up to the caucus.

Time was tight and we got her samples at once and managed to nail down the perfect mint, called Big Structural Change, and shipped them just in time to for the caucus. Congresswoman Porter was not only incredibly easy to work with in the process, but has Instagramed and Tweeted lovely things about Claws Out, including:

“Claws Out represents the best of American small business. They are rooted in community and give back 20% of profits to create a better future. Today and every day, I’m proud to cheer them on. That kind of support and word of mouth is paramount to a small business and she gets it.”

When Warren bowed out, we felt dejected and exhausted. As a woman founder it was hard not to see the way she was treated and feel it personally. We couldn’t quite let go of the color, so we branded it to today’s best-selling Exhausted Empath which donates to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
